Back to Dunolly
Weekend November 3rd, 4th and 5th
A huge weekend full of activity is planned for the Back to Dunolly celebrations. Dunolly has not had a Back to Dunolly since 1988 when we had one in conjunction with the Gold Rush Festival and the Bicentenary of Australia.
Melbourne Cup weekend always sees a great many people around and with former residents returning for the Back to Dunolly, we expect Dunolly’s population to swell to a huge number.
On Friday 3rd November the festivities will kick off with the fabulous Harrow Sound and Light Show Band in Dunolly Town Hall for a Welcome Home Dance. The 5 piece band will play everything from
Old Time through to Rock and Roll. They will certainly be entertaining and have your toes tapping. Admission will be $10 Adults and children free. Supper is included.
Broadway will come alive on the Saturday morning with the Harrow Band performing in the street.
A Puppet show will be staged in the Town Hall garden. At around 12.20pm the Chinese Dragon and the Victorian Re-enactment Society will put on a bit of street theatre prior to the Street Parade, which will start at 1pm. There is a prize for the Best Float. At this stage we are hopeful that we will have a Pipe Band and a Brass Band in the Parade. Town Crier Tom Stewart will lead the Parade. Motorised vehicles are to assemble at the football oval around 12 noon and Pedestrian entries in Broadway between Tarnagulla Road and Bull Street for the Parade.
On Saturday afternoon, after the Parade, a Back to School will take place between 2.30 and 4pm at Dunolly Primary School.
At 7.30pm a Pageant of History and Music will be held on the football oval. We have some great local talent including local artists, bands action by Local Emergency groups, historical re-enactments nd Geoffrey Graham will be compere. The celebrations will finish with Dunolly RTC fireworks.
Sunday morning is when an ecumenical service will take place at St John’s Anglican Church at 11am.
The Puppet Show will be staged in the Town Hall garden again on Sunday.
